Dulaglutide
Also known as Trulicity
Once-weekly GLP-1 receptor agonist approved for type 2 diabetes.
What people use it for
- Type 2 diabetes (blood-sugar control)
- Reducing cardiovascular risk in adults with type 2 diabetes
What Dulaglutide does in the body
A GLP-1 analogue fused to part of an antibody, which makes it last about a week. Like other GLP-1 drugs it boosts glucose-dependent insulin release, lowers glucagon, slows stomach emptying and reduces appetite.
Strength of evidence
Strong: large randomised trials (the AWARD programme and the REWIND cardiovascular outcomes trial).
